(డయొజినెస్ ఆఫ్ సైనోప్ (క్రీ. పూ. 412/ 404 – 323 ) ఒక గ్రీకు తత్త్వవేత్త.   అతను మాటలలో కంటే, ఆచరించడం ద్వారా మాత్రమే విలువలు బాగా అవగతమౌతాయని నమ్మిన వాడు. తనని తాను ఏ దేశానికో ప్రాంతానికో చెందినట్టు ప్రకటించుకోకుండా, తాను “విశ్వనరుడిని” అని చెప్పుకున్నాడు. ఒక సారి కోరింత్ లో అతను ఎండలో విశ్రాంతి తీసుకుంటూండగా, అలెగ్జాండర్ ది గ్రేట్ అతని పేరు విని, దర్శించుకుని, “నేను మీకు ఏమైనా సహాయము చెయ్యగలనా?” అని వినయంగా అడిగేడట. దానికి అతను  “నామీద ఎండపడకుండా అడ్డు నిలబడ్డావు. పక్కకి తప్పుకుంటే చాలు” అన్నాడట.  ఈ కవిత ఆఖరి పాదంలో చెప్పిన విషయం దానిమీద ఆధారపడి వ్రాసినది.)

Diogenes of Sinope (412 or 404 BCE to 323 BCE) was a Greek Philosopher who believed virtue was better revealed in action than in theory. He claimed himself a citizen of the world than claiming allegiance to one place.   There was a legend when Alexander the Great met him in Corinth. Diogenes was relaxing in the sunlight in the morning, Alexander, thrilled to meet the famous philosopher, asked if there was any favor he might do for him. Diogenes replied, “Yes, stand out of my sunlight”.  That was the reference yo the last line of the poem.)
